Off the Needles... Marian in Rasta

A long, long time ago I designed Marian as a Christmas gift for my Mum. When I was yarn crawling in Vancouver for Yarn Harvest I fell in love with a Marian sample that was hanging in Urban Yarns. It was made of Malabrigo Rasta and it looked amazing.

During my last visit to Knotty by Nature I noticed they carried Malabrigo Rasta so I decided to treat myself. What I really wanted was something as colourful as the sample I had seen but apparently variegated Rasta is so unique and gorgeous it's difficult to keep it in stock so I settled on this yummy chocolatey colour.

I used up the entire skein and was able to knit this pattern up (cast on to bind off) at our Pub Knit Night... that should tell you something about the simplicity of this knit, my choice was strategic and it was the perfect drinking companion :)

I am very, very happy with the yarn, it was a little pricey but the result is so soft and luxurious. I think I'll keep my eyes open for a colourful skein, I wouldn't mind making another.

The pattern is free and you can download it HERE.

  4. After commenting, I'm going to go look for yarn. I haven't knitted in a long time and the fact that you could cast on & off in the same night just sounds perfect for me right now.

  5. Well, I'm going to have to peak around for this Rasta you speak of. Maybe a treat once I go back to work after mat leave. And love the snood. Looks cozy! Thanks for the download. And Knotty by Nature? Awesome shop name.

  6. WARNING: Knitting with Rasta can lead to experimentation with other yarns in the Malabrigo line. It is HIGHLY addictive. Consider yourselves warned. ;)

This post brought to you by a Malabrigo Junky.

Is it bad I know most of the colorways off the top of my head?

And please, know that Silky Merino can ruin you for other silk/merino blends.

    2. I think the tag reads "pure knitting heaven" or some such on the Silky Merino. They do not lie.

  9. We definitely are constantly reordering rasta in! We just can't keep it in stock. We had a shipment recently, but they were mostly more solid colors as the variegated ones are so popular! I like your chocolate brown one though, a nice neutral to wear with anything :)
