NEW PATTERN / Shepherd Toque

I'm slowly easing myself back into work and revisiting some of the projects I had begun before my accident. It's been intimidating coming back, and I've learned to be patient with myself. I'm incredibly grateful for the patience I've been given by those around me — thank you ♥

{ WELTED Cowl }

One of the projects that was so close to completion when I had my fall, was an ultralight toque that was inspired by the super light and versatile Welted Cowl (above). This cowl goes everywhere with me — I take it camping (I even sleep in it — the woods are chilly!). It's great for hikes and those first few minutes of a morning run when it's FREEZING and you haven't warmed up yet. I made mine with SweetGeorgia's Silk Mist (heaven!) and as well as being practical and hard wearing, it also makes a really elegant accessory. It looks just as good with a dressy coat as it does under a jean jacket, and best of all, it's so light it tucks into your pocket! My goal was to create this magic in a toque.

Three yarns stood out to me. And after swatching I couldn't rule any one of them out — each one, although slightly different, would make a perfect lightweight toque. So instead of narrowing my options, the decision was made to develop them all. The result is a very versatile pattern, with three different levels of lightness to choose from ranging from ultralight to fingering! I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I hope knitters will get as much enjoyment out of knitting this toque as I have designing it!

— ULTRALIGHT Version
The lightest of the three, this Ultralight version is made with lofty Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk and only requires one ball of yarn. Weighing in at only 25 grams (for the largest size!), this version is feather-light, incredibly packable, and is quick drying.

— MID-WEIGHT Version
The Mid-Weight version is made with Sandnes Garn Tweed, a brushed yarn just the slightest bit thicker than the Ultralight. It requires only one ball and weighs 40g for the largest size! Larger needles and gauge make this the fastest knit of the three versions!

— FINGERING Version —
This Fingering version uses a single skein of Woolfolk Sno, a cloud-like sock-weight yarn that is so dreamy to knit with you'll want to make more that one! With it's slightly thicker fabric it still weighs a mere 42 grams for the largest size! This version rounds out the trio and lends versatility to the pattern — because who doesn't have a skein of sock yarn in their stash?!

I'm excited to finally be able to share the pattern with you.
I think it would make an excellent gift or a sweet treat to yourself ♥

Happy Knitting!
