Classic Raglan KAL // Week 4

My Classic Raglan Pullover was the only project I brought with me on our Fibres West trip last weekend but to be honest, I didn't knit nearly as much as I thought I would. Partly because this is a big project to lug around. Arika had a small project stashed in her purse so while we were waiting at the restaurant, sipping coffees at Starbucks, or taking hours to make yarn buying decisions, Arika would just pull out her knitting. I was so jealous, it made me want to cast on socks :) I was also really exhausted from the early morning and the running around that by the time we crashed in our hotel I was like a zombie, I only had enough energy to stare at the tv. You know it's bad when you're too tired to knit.

Another reason for my slow progress this week is the crazy amount of swatching I've been doing since arriving home with all of my loot. I have big plans for my Sweet Georgia Yarn, I'm like a mad woman, I can't stop! I'll prove it to you...

This is what my hand looked like after a full day of swatching with Riptide. You can actually see how I hold my yarn by the blue marks on my fingers... Clearly I am a thrower who uses her pinky for tension :)

As for my Classic Raglan Pullover... I bound off my first sleeve this morning. Considering this project needs to last me through the 6 week duration of this KAL, I think the slow down was just what I needed to keep pace.

Are you knitting along? How's it coming?

    1. I'm not sure yet. I could cast on my Rainbow Rasta Marian but I may just save it for another pub knit :) What are you bringing?

  2. I love the hand picture! I am also a thrower who uses her pinky for tension. Very funny. I just kitchnered the toe of a second sock together, so I need to find a new project.

    1. I love how we can bond over how we hold our yarn :) Love it! I'm seriously considering casting on socks because being between projects makes me antsy, lol.

  3. I finished my Classic Raglan, but need to block and take pics. (In all fairness I had started before the official KAL though!) Started on a new project and I'm just about finished with that. (My 4yo daughter found the "perfect yarn" according to her for this cardigan.) Then I will be on to Gemini, hopefully I'll be able to wear that soon as I can see that my weather here is WAY to warm for my sweater!

    1. I had forgotten this tale! I just reread it on Wikipedia, you are so right! I always loved this story, thanks for the reminder :)

  5. I'm a picker and I am also sporting some war wounds, but they are on my left hand!
I just have the ribbing on the 2nd sleeve and the neck to do...and then blocking.
Do you have any special suggestions for patching the little hole near the picked up stitches on the underarm? I guess some sort of kitchener hybrid would work...

    1. I normally do some picking up + immediate decreasing when I first begin my sleeve to minimize the holes... it normally does the trick but it's not really an exact science. If I leave them to the end I just use my tail (from rejoining the yarn) to close the holes.

I can't wait to see your FO pics!

  8. I can't wait to see what you are swatching! New pattern?! Yeah!
I've got to ask, where did you get the little tin for your knitting notions? It looks like the perfect size and it seems to have everything in it!

    1. I am a crazy tin collector, I have actually had to be more choosy as of late because my collection was getting a little out of hand. This tin actually housed a top of the line skin care system that was in a gift basket of winnings that I won at a raffle... long winded answer but this is my favorite tin, it's just the right size, stays shut, and houses everything I need without having to scale things down :)

  9. I have never swatched in my life. Making myself before I make your Elsie Sundress and Cardigan... My first garments. Any swatching tips? Also, what tools are you carrying in that tin?

  10. I'm not knitting along because with the heat wave in Wisconsin lately, all I want to knit with is lace weight (Hannah Fettig designs, anyone?). However, I had to comment because I love finding throwers--it seems like everybody picks and I just don't get it! I use my ring finger for tension and kind of grip the needle with my pinkie, but still, I love it :)

  11. I'm in the middle of a certification course for work that's sucking up all of my personal time and energy. My poor knitting just sits there because when I do have 30 minutes free, my brain can't even handle stockinette socks. It's sad.

  12. JANE! I LOVE THIS!! seriously I can't get over that colour! PERHAPS I will do a bigger version of the classic raglan in that come the fall?? sounds like a perfect plan to me :) We hold our yarn the exact same way! (Weirdly similar sometimes you and me) I will get the exact same dye marks or sometimes yarn burn after some marathon knitting sessions! The pinky is just so perfect for controlling tension! I can't wait to see your incredible yellow socks and possibly try to steal them.... I mean admire them.

    1. The bag is by Miso Crafty and is amazing, I love it! It's really, really well made and is the perfect size (it's her LARGE sweater size). Find Melissa's bags here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MisoCraftyKnits
