Off My Needles: Begbie Cowl with Arbutus Buttons

This post is a little overdue but that is to be expected after a busy holiday season. Things get backed up and believe you me, I have a long list of projects that need to be photographed so hopefully the beginning of this new year will be filled with new things from me!

Off the needles this time is the Begbie Cowl in Royal blue with Arbutus branch buttons that Chris made for me a while back, they are gorgeous. I like the combination of the modern electric blue and the earthy wooden buttons. This is my second Begbie Cowl and I honestly can't decide which version I like better, buttoned or seamed.

Here is a sneak preview of a toque that I have been working on, I hope to offer the pattern in a fitted and slouchy version.

::: Has anyone noticed my blue kick? I tend to go on colour streaks. The length of these streaks always varies, anywhere from a few months to several years, and in the end I tend to drop the colour completely and move on to something new, never really feeling the same way about that colour again. Does anyone else have this strange habit?

  1. Oh, I also tend to get colour streaks. There's nothing wrong about them, even Picasso had them. ;-)
I love the green and blue combination, by the way.

  3. Can't wait for the new toque pattern! Loving the blue. I think we probably all go thru color stages.

  4. I totally know what you mean. My colour streaks tend to be seasonal for some reason and I'm always trying to pull myself out of the rut.

  5. Oooh, what a gorgeous cowl!! It looks great with the buttons and seamed, you are absolutely right- a versatile pattern is always a great thing, though.

  7. Oooo, arbutus buttons! My husband Michael just picked up a truck load of arbutus wood (a tree was cut down at the family cabin in Maple Bay) which supposedly has to dry for 5-10 years before he can use it - crazy - but I am promised bracelets and bowls so I will try to be patient. Love the colour combo as well!

  8. Oh my, yes, I certainly do have the same relationship with colours. I'm actually just coming out of a blue crush, cruising through my red-love, and feel a pink hankering coming on.
