Amelia was one of my first patterns and is still one of my faves because I've found this hat so useful. Elsie actually likes wearing it which makes the design a huge success for that reason alone. The original design was knit in one size only (6-12m) using some wonderful mystery yarn that my mother passed along to me.
{The Original}
When I decided to rewrite the pattern I went on a mad hunt trying to ID this yarn with absolutely no luck. In the end I chose the most similar yarn that I could find, Phildar Aviso, and I have really enjoyed knitting with it. It's thick and knits up quickly and the texture is so amazing, it's soft and almost velvety but has beautiful, crisp stitch definition.
The new pattern is written for three sizes, Newborn (Baby, Toddler) and is worked from the top down this time, rather than using a bottom up construction and picking up stitches for the chinstrap. It only uses one ball of the recommended yarn and is really fun and easy to knit, not to mention super fast!

To make Elsie's Amelia a little more feminine I've added flowers on the one side. The new pattern also includes a bonus tutorial on making embroidered flowers.
I'm excited to finally share this new version with all of you, as you can see it's been a long time coming. If you've purchased the old version through Ravelry (or my blog) you will receive a notice about the updated pattern which will include the new download link. If you've purchased the pattern through Etsy and you would like to receive a copy of the new Amelia feel free to convo me requesting the new version.
Happy Knitting!
Love it! Lily needs a new hat and this one wouldn't wind up getting chucked on the sidewalk.
